The History of Kirkby Group was formed in 2000 and exists to research and publish information,
articles and books about the history of the village of Kirkby in Furness, otherwise Kirkby Ireleth,
which goes back at least to Saxon times.
Previously published items include ‘Kirkby Select Vestry Book’, ‘Kirkby Fragments’ Vol 1-4
and more recently "ASHLACK: The History of a Small Cumbrian Estate" & ‘Kirkby Fragments’ Vol 5-9.The Group meets on the third Tuesday of each month, except August & December, usually at 2.00 pm in Beckside Rooms at which there may be a speaker, but more usually it is to review progress on the various projects that are being undertaken at any one time. During the summer we usually devote one meeting to visit a part of the village for a History Walk and another to visit a place of interest in the South Lakeland area.
There are occasional evening meetings usually with a speaker.
Membership £5 per annum and 50p at each meeting (£1 for visitors)
