ASHLACK
THE HISTORY OF A SMALL CUMBRIAN ESTATE
MARK KEEGAN
THIS BOOK TELLS the story of Ashlack and its various incarnations. From what it might have been prior to the 17th century to what it became, and has now become, over a period of some 350 years. It also delves into the costings for its conversion, rebuilding and rescue and perhaps more interestingly into how those costs were met. In one case definitely at the expense of the exchequer.
It deals with the families who have occupied the house and farmed from it, their foibles and vicissitudes, and also with the expansion and contraction of the amount of land attached to the house.
256pp, 20pp colour illustrations, b/w illustrations, charts & maps, full index, hard back.
